AA INTERMEDIATE 9 – YEAR 2

Due to the opportunity created by renovation works which were to take place in Camp Nou Stadium, the building site is a section of the existing stadium and the immediate vicinity. The project aims to create an architectural link between the stadium and the community in the adjacent area by erasing the distinction between city and stadium. We critiqued the stadium typology by taking on the context of the club’s Les Cortes ‘campus’ and its connection to the city and reinventing it.

MODELS AND DRAWINGS ILLUSTRATING THE FINAL CONCEPT

The buildings underneath the roof act as a series of support pillars.

The tops of  buildings underneath the roof are shaped by the irregular geometry of the roof, creating a series of sloping planes.

DESIGN PROJECT ON SITE

A series of volumes that are meant to house a retail and leisure area adjoining the stadium support a roof structure, which also serves as an alternate circulation and access area into the stadium seating area. This structure is intended to divert stadium visitors from the traditional circulation routes inside the stadium and to attract visitors to the site on days when the stadium doesn’t house a match.
